Now when the children look up at the stars at night, they will not be worrying about how they will survive the next day, but dreaming of their future.

Les Étoiles in Haiti was formed in 2019 out of a desire to help Haitian children  living in the streets gain dignity and hope for their future.  The idea started in August 2018 when the founder was on a Haitian mission volunteering at  several shelters run by a Catholic  organization on the border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.  Two boys asked her if she would help them go back home to their families and enroll in school.  After learning that the $200 school enrollment fee was the only thing keeping them out of school, the founder decided to pay the fees for any boys at the shelters who wanted to go back home and enroll in the 2018 school year.  That year, 7 boys took her up on her offer  and  5  others  attended  vocational  training.

Seeing the joy in their mothers’ eyes after being reunited with their boys, and the pride the boys felt when they got their first test scores, the founder knew that she wanted to do more.  She wanted to help as many of the boys in the shelters as possible.  So, she founded a charitable organization.

Since  then,  the  organization has  grown  to  support  shelters  in  Port  au  Prince  and is helping  children  in  the  provinces  of  Haiti  with  education,  food,  and  healthcare.

One  of  our  goals  is  to  empower  Haitian  women  to  make  better  lives  for  their  children.   We  provide  micro  loans  to  some  mothers  of  our  scholarship  awardees  so  that  they  can  start  a  small  business.

For  our  fundraising  activities,  we  sell  handmade  beauty  products that  are  either  made  directly  by  Haitian  women or  that contain raw  materials  made by a cooperative of women in Haiti.  These women make coconut oil (kokoye), castor oil (maskreti), and moringa oil (benzoliv).  All of these oils are used by women in Haiti to make their hair and skin beautiful.   We incorporate these oils into our soaps, hair and body oils, and scrubs.

We pay fair market value for the raw oils, giving these women income to provide for their families.  All proceeds from the sale of our products support Les Etoiles in Haiti’s programs in Haiti.

In  addition,  when  we  hold  events  to  feed  children  in  shelters,  we  hire  local  women  to  do  the  cooking.    Our  goal  is  to  give dignity  and  hope to  the  Haitian  society  by  providing  jobs,  education,  healthcare,  food,  and  clothing.
